Energy Healing is a generic catch-all term covering any kind of healing which is done by applying or manipulating energy towards, in, around, or pulling away from the body.
There are nearly as many definitions and forms of energy healing as there are people! Below, I have listed a few of the more commonly known forms of energy healing, grouped them by medical, religious and alternative therapies and placed them in alphabetical order. This list is by no means exhaustive and I have only a superficial acquintance with many of these technologies. It is important to note that just as not every medical treatment works on everyone, the same is true with religion, belief, popular or cutting edge alternative therapy. Such is the delight of diversity.
Medical energy healing includes, and is not limited to:
- Lasers ~ eye surgeries, cosmetic surgeries, hair removal
- Radiation therapy ~ cancer therapy
- Sound therapy ~ music therapy

Religious energy healing includes a wide variety of beliefs and faith healing in many formats, and is not limited to:
- Christian ~ healing in the name of Jesus, speaking in tongues, prayer
- Buddhist ~ meditation, purification, disciplined mind practices
- Hindu ~ prayer to the appropriate deity / aspect of god
- Jewish ~ prayer
- Muslim ~ prayer
- Shaminism (native American and other indiginous peoples) ~ chanting, drumming, vision quests
Popular and cutting edge alternative therapies include, and are not limited to:
- Acupuncture (Chinese)
- Acutronics (Acupuncture and Tuning Forks)
- Aromatherapy (Essential Oils, see Young Living Essential Oils)
- Ayerveda (Indian)
- Cymatic therapy (sound therapy)
- Energy Healing, see Quantum Touch on my Reading List
- Reiki (Authentic Reiki ® The Radiance Technique ®), see more info on Reiki
- Shaminism (there are many techniques used in addition to prayer)
- Therapeutic Touch (Dolores Krieger, PhD, RN)
- Touch for Health (John F Thie, DC)

"Remote" or "distant" or "non-local" energy healing are all names for the same occurance. The practitioner or technology does not need to be in the same location, much less in direct physical contact with the person being healed (or animal or plant being healed).
It has been widely accepted among many various religious circles that prayer healing knows no separation of distance.
Within the last century, quantum physics, a scientific specialty of the very small, responsible for semi-conductors, superconductors, fission, fusion, fiber optics, etc., has now established the term "non-local" to indicate the situation where an action on one particle creates an equally exact reaction on a related particle at a very great distance, seemingly contradicting the Newtonian physics which is the physics of the average size, and even seeming to contradict Einstein's relativity physics which is the physics of very large. Over time, just as relativity was seen to include Newtonian physics, quantum physics is now seen to include relativity physics.
Fortunately, we do not need to understand the mathematics of quantum physics, such as the following Schrödinger's Equation which describes how the quantum state of a physical system changes in time, in order to take advantage of the advancements in technology and in healing which have come out of the scientific discoveries.
Whether it is called remote, distant, or non-local, whatever is used for the 'justification' of performing such energy healings, the bottom line is that for many practitioners and people being healed, it works.
